First crunch clash, first FA Cup quarterfinal in 11 years, will it change the tone?
- on May 23, 2023
Daejeon Hana Citizens are aiming for their first FA Cup quarterfinal appearance since 2012.
Jeju United and Daejeon will meet in the round of 16 of the 2023 Hana OneQ FA Cup at Jeju World Cup Stadium at 7 p.m. on April 24.
Daejeon, who have been in the FA Cup since the last round, faced Geoje Citizens Football Club of the K4 League in the third round. Due to the tight league schedule at the time, Daejeon mostly rotated their lineup, with the exception of Joo Se-jong, who was preparing to return from injury, and Anton, who was unable to play in the next league match due to his sending-off, to get the win and stay healthy. Lee Dong-won, a rookie who joined the team this season, scored the first goal in the seventh minute to take the lead. They equalized through Kim Kyung-hwan in the 30th minute, but Lee Sun-yu, Byun Jun-soo, and Yoo Kang-hyun scored consecutive goals in the second half to secure a 4-1 victory.
Their Round of 16 opponent is Jeju, who defeated Changwon City Hall 2-1 in the third round. Daejeon will be hoping for revenge. They last met Jeju in the league on March 30, when they suffered a 0-3 defeat at home.스포츠토토
They need a win to turn the tide. Daejeon recently lost back-to-back league games to Pohang Steelers and Daegu FC. This is their first crisis in the league after cruising after promotion. Contrary to Daejeon, Jeju is on an upswing with five wins and one draw in their last six games. A win over Jeju would also see them reach the FA Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 11 years. The last time they were eliminated in the quarterfinals was in 2012.
Ahead of the FA Cup match against Jeju, head coach Lee Min-sung said, “We will do our best to turn the tide through the FA Cup and carry it through to the league.”
